When I was a kid, I wanted to be a boy. I really had gender issues.

I think a little tidbit I can give you is that I grew up with basically everything handed to me, except for my career. I worked for that.

No one's just going to hand you a career. I waited for years for someone to hand me one and it never happened.

I'm a person who likes habit and knowing what my job is.

I love action movies, and I love comedy, and I love writing comedy, but the genre of action-comedy - or, at least, as it currently usually is - is just not something that I feel that compelled by, generally, because I find the action to be silly, or it's too slapstick, or the stakes feel low because people are joking in the middle of it.

Monk' planted the seed that a procedural could have character and be quirky and have comedy.

Why would a lazy guy become a parent of five? Then again, why would creative people who inherently don't like change and criticism become writers, actors, or comedians? There's something about this process. I joke about it: My kids have made me a better person, and I only need, like, 34 more of them to be a really good guy.

In reality, there are tons of unrepresented voices that we don't see in comedy.
