I had a mother who got involved in grassroot politics when I was growing up. I watched her have agency and become political in a very male-dominated world.

I'm so aware how often women's bodies are objectified on film.

With 'Suffragette,' I was emboldened that there were so many women around me. We had a female writer, producers, production and costume designers.

Having the vote is just symbolic. There are still many issues on which women don't have any right and, in many countries, where women are given very very few rights.

Once I got a bit older, and we could see there could be a future in football, it was everyone's blessing to chase that dream. And it did me a lot of good: It put me through college, it gave me an education, it got me a little taste of pro ball and a lot of good memories. I don't regret any of it.

It's so gratifying to see people face to face who get to meet the people who are giving them a fair price for their work. They can now provide medical support for their kids, give them better education and in general have a better standard of living. God knows they deserve it.

My trademark at CNN was really asking insightful questions and making sure people are understanding the connections in humanity, and I think that is the core of education.

Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.
