The United States, like any great power, is always going to have an intelligence operation, and some electronic surveillance is obligatory in the modern world.

My own career reflects a strange dichotomy between the world we've long known and the world that will become.

Students follow rules. Students complete assignments. The job of students - in part, at least - is to please their teachers. Now, I realize I may be exaggerating a little here, but basically I think I'm right: students do what they're told.

Everyone wants to be paid well - I know that I certainly do. But there are lots of other satisfactions that we get from our work. To feel needed. To feel accomplishment. To believe that our work matters. Being a lawyer gives you a rare chance to experience that kind of success.

My career is there for everyone to see and delve into.

I never, ever would have imagined the kind of career I've had. It just wouldn't have occurred to me that anything like this could have been possible. I didn't have any such aspirations. And I still can't believe my good fortune.

If you don't start your career until thirty, that still gives you thirty-five years to make it professionally. If you can't make it in thirty-five years, you weren't going to make it in forty or forty-five.

When you go to work, you are a Christian at your workplace. You're not a broadcaster who happens to be Christian. You're a Christian.
