Understanding the importance of evolving is very important. Reinventing is very important. To break what you have already done is very important. That growth should never stop.

Learning is always great!

There have been failures in the past, and I know there will be in future as well. But I have learnt from them.

The family is the focal point of our existence. And up until Jane and Lucy's death, there were always 16 of us together for Christmas.

It all comes down to perspective. When I get crabby about something, like the delay that was driving me crazy because I told my kids I'd be home for dinner, I have to remind myself where it fits in the scheme of things. We have to say, 'That's life,' which can sometimes be comforting.

Divorce is fairly common these days, and I think many times people disregard the emotional impact that divorce has on a couple and a family, because it happens so frequently.

My grandmothers are Irish-American and German-American; my grandfather is from the Caribbean. My father is African-American. My family looked funny. I just started naturally imitating whoever I was talking to. I didn't want to be a phony, but I felt very authentic in the moment.
