Stories develop from things I read and also from my own experiences and experiences of people I know.

I think about my audience when I write, to some extent. Thinking of writing for young adults, I try to keep the stories moving, never a dull moment, to hold their interest.

Until you separate the speculative behaviour of the financial sector from the real economy and the financing of the real economy, then we are not going to see the kind of stability or the capacity to drive genuine, income-led growth as opposed to debt-fuelled, speculative behaviour.

Making films requires the creative skills you'd expect, but it also demands immense non-creative skills, like the ability to raise all that money and the savviness to work the studio's politics.

It would make me feel that creative art has a chance in this crazy world that we all live in.

You get money out of acting. You get gray hair out of directing. Actually, I get more of a rush from directing.
