I always tell young women that they have a right to own their opinion, to speak up, and to make the first move.

Feminism wasn't really at the top of my vocabulary. I think what's been interesting for me - let me say this delicately - when I've been surrounded by men who don't believe women are equal, I didn't think women were equal, including myself.

Eventually I booked a 2-line role on a show called 'JAG' and slowly the parts got bigger and better. I'm very thankful that I had to appreciate how difficult the business is before I had any kind of success.
