I was a tough kid. I don't punch people anymore.

I was a wayward kid, a rambunctious and angry teenager, but I found acting as a fifteen-year-old.

Why am I the way I am? Well, I used to be different.

I'd have to say I'm most proud of my mentoring camp that I do in Dallas every year for one hundred boys from single-parent homes. I was raised by a mother who was a Sunday school teacher and a father who worked hard. Together they taught me to give back.

My family and I want to start our own organization to work on global warming and a couple of other things.

I was lucky to have such a loving, crazy family. I learned to give and share.

I am less selfish. But I am more insistent on being part of the creative experience. I find I am a better mother, lover and wife when I am writing. When my daughter was small I wasn't writing as much and I didn't miss it.
