I must learn to love the fool in me - the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries.

Sometimes the routes leading to feelings of anger are so convoluted and circuitous that it takes enormous skill to discern their original source, or fountainhead. But regardless of the reason for or the source of the anger or the relative ease or complexity in perceiving either the anger or its source - everybody, but everybody, gets angry.

The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.

Happiness does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best.

In my seventies, I exercised to stay ambulatory. In my eighties, I exercise to avoid assisted living.

We're trying to take a leadership role in solving the nation's health-care crisis. We want everybody in this country to have health insurance.

I also meet with city officials, representatives from governors' offices, really anyone in that sort of position who has shown an interest in youth fitness, to let them know why this sort of program is so important. I give the same message when I speak at conferences.

My goal is to stay in good health, and every day, I wake up and pray that I do.
