I spent the majority of my teenage years in hospitals, rehabs and halfway houses.

I was never interested in acting on film or in television, but I was always more inclined to writing and directing, and the exploration of character.

Sometimes you can just have a dialogue with an actor beforehand and shape the performance then, but other actors need more guidance on the set.

I think when I do things outside of music, I am always thinking of different things that are eventually one way or another going to come back to my music. I have to make sure it is all cohesive, as that's important to me as an artist and a person.

For me, the idea of curating can be expanded. Curating science, curating art, music and theater and performance and not only bring those things into art but bring art into those areas.

The 'Best of British' is a positive thing that's bandied around, but also it's applied pressure to our country in terms of economic growth. I think we've always felt the rest of the world is so much more powerful in terms of being commercially viable, but we can take great pride in our level of creativity.

Creative thinking - in terms of idea creativity - is not a mystical talent. It is a skill that can be practised and nurtured.
