It's not that the creative act and the critical act are simultaneous. It's more like you blurt something out and then analyze it.

Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life without it.

It's just not funny to disrespect other people's beliefs, backgrounds, cultures, or identities when those are deeply rooted in longstanding oppression. Jokes that punch down on marginalized people require no creativity because they've existed since the beginning of time. It's like telling a knock-knock joke and believing you're Richard Pryor.

I design all my sets. With my tour and my album artwork, I co-design that with people who are better at drawing than me. But I've got a good imagination. I went to art school so I understand how to communicate my ideas.

Art can retain its value and even make you some money. If you have your iPhone on you - and you probably do - look for the artist's signature, and use that to look up the artist and get a sense of the piece's value before you buy it.

I fell in love with art and music and dance and acting and how all those things can cultivate something really special and unique - depending on the performance and the show. That really kind of helped me develop my love of theater.
