For me, personally, I didn't see many people like me on TV growing up.

Peter Capaldi is such a brilliant actor, and his Doctor is such a wacky and wonderful character, I can't wait to see what adventures are in store for him and Bill throughout time and space.

I've always been attracted to music, and women like Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Tina Turner showed the path, in a way. They're all tough women but not afraid to be vulnerable. They made me feel someone like me could do that.

It's hard for some parents to give their children compliments.

My family knew that they loved me, and whatever this 'I want to be a girl' business was, it certainly wasn't about to change that.

Seeing family is what brings me peace. If I'm not traveling home on my day off, I love going to Central Park to be around trees and throw a Frisbee with my boyfriend.

My grandmother had mango trees in her backyard when I was a child. So it's always been an ingredient that I'm familiar with. It can be used in so many ways. My kids absolutely love it for a snack or in a savory dish.
