Being pretty was always a very big thing growing up.

As a female comic, if you talk about sex in any capacity, you will be branded a 'sex comic,' so I might as well go full force on it.

I'm learning that if you put yourself out there and make fun of yourself first, it really does work. People can't really make fun of you.

I am a woman, so I never want to hide that or be like, 'I'm one of the boys,' because I'm not. I am aware of our audience. We always aim for the right combo of not hitting people over head but still getting our message across.

I've played a lot of bad guys over the years, a lot of hardcore guys. At the same time, I've done a lot of comedy.

Being in a smaller environment - sometimes I like that. As a comic, we start off in comedy clubs, and there are people right at your feet, right on top of you. And I realize, as I get older, I miss that sometimes.

A TV touchstone for me is 'The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd.' That series was whimsical and smart and had the mix of comedy and drama that I now trade in - but with a dash of magical realism. I wanted to be Molly Dodd, but more than that, I wanted to be Jay Tarses, who created the show.

A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life.
