I've always had a philosophy that position doesn't define power. Impact defines power. What impact are you making on people? What impact are you making on business?

I think that the CEO is responsible for setting the vision, for articulating the mission, and for building a team of powerful evangelists that share that mission and that passion, because no one person can do anything by themselves.

We all work really hard, and we do it because we're passionate. We don't do it because we're being rated. However, we'd all be remiss if we didn't think that some kind of recognition for efforts and accomplishments didn't make you feel good.

It's good to have a goal.

For all my success with the Ramones, I carried around fury and intensity during my career. I had an image, and that image was anger. I was the one who was always scowling, downcast. I tried to make sure I looked like that when I was getting my picture taken.

I realised I had to work in something creative, but with a business and global element. And that I had to do it while I was still young and had an appetite for risk.

I came into having an artist's career in this very sheepish and directionless way. It's hard to explain, but I was 18 years old and I was ready to go to college; that was the next step for me. Then suddenly I had a song that blew up... and I had this artist's career and I was on tour with these big names and I didn't know what I was doing.

Looking at it half-full, there was only two singers in Motley, me and Vince, and I'm still here, 25 years later. And whether I like it or not, I'm the other singer for Motley Crue, and not to sound weird, but I've gotten a lot of extra mileage, I think, out of my career because of it, so I have nothing but positive things to say.
