It's easier to make art for a society at a certain point in time with an understanding of what's going on.

Some of my early musical memories are attached to grunge.

I think of the pop music that I've made in the past and hear on the radio as candy bars. And I was really good at making candy bars.

A lot of people considered my career as an artist largely over. Two albums got shelved. But I've made music since I was a little kid, and for the majority of that time, I wasn't paid for it. So I will always be making it.

I feel super-proud of my team and myself; like, I have an all-star MVP team. They're so sweet, and they love me, and I love them. It's a very respectful, lovely relationship.

We need to look through the lens of disparities whether it's with health or housing or other issues for the LGBTQ community. It's beyond just marriage, right? We need to get into that mindset in terms of where are these disparities and how do we address them.

I've been perfectly happily married for 25 years, and have a nice life. Inane things don't interest me.

I didn't get into the music business because somebody made me take piano lessons, you know. I got into music because I was a natural writer and had a lot of curiosity about sound.
