I didn't play any extreme sports growing up. I never surfed, and I grew up in Santa Cruz. I was very good at doing what I was told, taking direction, and staying middle of the road. I mean, they called me 'grandma' in college.

I think I feel good as a South African player that people say that we always get into semifinal and lose... this is one of the biggest achievements to get into semifinal. Not many teams do that. For me, it's a real achievement.

I am a great believer in jobs for teens. They teach important life lessons, build character, and inflict just the right amount of humiliation necessary for future success in the working world.
