Every day, I get e-mails from kids who want a tree - a world away from the adult world.

Children will often write, 'We love your books because there are no adults in them.'

Writing for children isn't easy. Kids will abandon a story that doesn't interest, enchant, delight, thrill, or terrify them. But when you can find a way into a young reader's imagination through something as simple as words on paper, well, there's nothing more satisfying.

It's what still excites me most about acting: letting your imagination go places it's never been before. There's nothing better than that.
