Growing up in the States, there's this part of me that's like, man, I'm Indian. Like, this is where I belong. And as soon as I got to India, and I had to go to the bathroom in some places, I was, like, 'Man - I am American.'

Everybody's past and history informs them.

Nuanced debate can't stand up to a guy who's calling women pigs and retweeting white supremacists.

My goal is just to continue to find mediums to tell stories that I think need to be told.

That's humour - doing what funny people have done since comedy began without being edgy and pushing boundaries.

I'm a comedian, and I have my share of anxiety and depression; so do most of my friends. My humor tends to lie in the juxtaposition of extreme lightness - I'm a huge musical-theater fan - and extreme darkness. And so I really like playing with those because that's how I feel.

The most contemporary film I can think of is your standard romantic comedy, but the minute you make them, they already look so aged.

It's that I wasn't suited to do the kind of comedy that these people were coming to hear - mainstream comedy.
