I was so self-critical. I still am, but it's not as bad anymore.

I know what my job is: I write the songs, I sing them, I play them on the piano.

We wouldn't ever sit down and pretend that our friendship didn't fall apart back in the late ‘80s. It wasn't like there was a massive bust-up. We just drifted apart.

I am old enough to remember when America's K-12 public schools were the best in the world. I am a proud graduate of them, and I credit much of my success to what I learned in Detroit Public Schools and at Michigan State University.

Because after my first year I had a lot of success, took everybody by storm, came back the next year thought it was easy and didn't have near the season I had the previous year. It was kind of a wake-up call. And so, life goes on.
