Courage is just fear, plus prayers, plus understanding.

Our scholastic system isn't structured to make sure that kids in the fifth or sixth grades absolutely know how to read.

I was getting bored and, I think, being a real pest. I remember Brando coming and sitting on the bed and cutting out the most exquisite paper fish, with detailed scales and fins. Then he took a hotel pen and a piece of string and made a fishing pole.

It was a very magical upbringing, the quality of feeling special, and people treated us special. You tried real hard to remember all the normal things so you didn't get twisted.

When you're caught up in your career, you're not thinking about becoming a legend one day or how, 25 years from now, you'll be immortalized in something or that you might be going into the Hall of Fame.

The career doesn't get any easier. A career stays tough.

Apart from my work, my greatest pleasures have been mainly out-of-doors, and although I no longer ski, I greatly enjoy walking in the mountains and leading country rambles. I am fond of music, whether light or classical, and play the piano in a self-taught way. In company, I enjoy lively, way-out discussions.

A career is like a house: it's made of many bricks, and each brick has the same value, because without any one of them, the house would collapse.
