I can only speak for myself - there were times when I just wasn't inspired by creating music.

The impact of a conscious artist is necessary, and it ripples through the world.

After you make good, quality music, then it's your job to go out there and promote it and to market it and to get it out there to the people.

I feel, as an artist, I should be able to express who I am and the things I come from, and the places I want to also be.

I grew up doing certain little things in the musical theatre realm, but I didn't really understand that you could... make a career out of it.

I was never a glamour puss whose career was really based on a look or an attitude. I've been basically playing the same parts I am at 55 that I was at 35. I get cast as strong women, and that can be a mother or a judge or anything.

I didn't start my label out of a business perspective. I did it because I wanted to create a platform where new musicians can have the chance to get into a studio, work with each other, and get their music noticed by a large audience.

Power' is a very special film for me and is one of the finest films of my career. I have played a character that I have never done before. My role has a lot of comedy.
